Gediz University

Gediz University was a foundation university established on the Seyrek campus in the Menemen district of İzmir. It was founded in 2008 by the Sipahi Education, Health and Sports Foundation and began education in the 2009-2010 academic year. As of 2016, the year it was closed, the university served approximately 7,975 undergraduate and graduate students from 80 different countries with 287 academic staff members. Gediz University, which had five faculties, two institutes, a Vocational School and a Vocational School of Justice, provided education in the fields of Law, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Arts and Sciences, and Health Sciences. Offering education in English in a significant number of its departments, the university stood out with its modern laboratories, international student profile and university-industry cooperation projects. In 2015, it ranked 41st overall in Türkiye and 15th among foundation universities in the TÜBİTAK Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Index.

Cihan News Agency was a news agency founded in 1994 with its headquarters in Istanbul. Operating under Feza Publishing, the agency produced news in the fields of current affairs, politics, economy, international news, culture and arts, entertainment, and sports. With its widespread reporter network across Türkiye and its local media subscriptions, it provided written news, photographs, and video news services to many newspapers, television channels, and news organizations. Cihan News Agency became known as one of Türkiye’s important news agencies, with a structure that produced hundreds of written news items, photographs, and video reports every day. Working not only with the national press but also with local television channels, radio stations, and newspapers, the agency conveyed developments from Türkiye and the world to its subscribers. Cihan News Agency was closed in 2016 under a decree-law issued after 15 July; its movable and immovable properties and all its assets were seized and transferred to the Treasury.

Ipek University was established in Ankara in 2011 by the Koza Ipek Foundation as the first thematic university of Turkey focused on social sciences and arts. The university aimed to provide its students with a world class creativity ecosystem. By launching the Faculty of Cinema Arts it established a strategic partnership with the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Within this framework a Hollywood curriculum was brought to Ankara. The 8 professional film sets within the campus represented the most advanced artistic production infrastructure in the region. With its closure in 2016 Turkey lost its largest technological and academic investment in the fields of cinema and digital arts.

Kimse Yok Mu (Is Anyone There?) was one of Turkey's largest humanitarian aid organizations, providing disaster relief and social support both domestically and internationally. Founded in 2004, it grew to become a major charitable organization with UN ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) Special Consultative Status, operating in dozens of countries. İlk yıllarında yabancı dille eğitim yapan Anadolu Lisesi statüsünde faaliyet gösteren kurum, ilerleyen dönemlerde farklı eğitim kademeleri, kampüsleri ve okul birimleriyle daha geniş bir eğitim ağına dönüştü. Samanyolu Koleji, özellikle akademik başarıları, bilim olimpiyatları, proje çalışmaları, üniversite sınavlarında elde edilen dereceler ve öğrencilerin bilimsel üretimini destekleyen eğitim kültürüyle tanındı. Kurumun eğitim anlayışında öğrencilerin yalnızca akademik yönden değil; sosyal, kültürel ve kişisel gelişim bakımından da desteklenmesi önemli bir yer tuttu. Yıllar içinde öğretmenleri, öğrencileri, velileri, mezunları ve çalışanlarıyla geniş bir aidiyet çevresi oluşturan Samanyolu Koleji, Ankara’da yalnızca bir özel okul değil, aynı zamanda bir eğitim hafızası olarak da anıldı. 2016 yılında ilan edilen olağanüstü hâl döneminde yayımlanan 667 sayılı Kanun Hükmünde Kararname ve Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’nın ilgili listeleri kapsamında Samanyolu adını taşıyan özel öğretim kurumlarının faaliyetleri sona erdirildi. Bu kayıt, kurumu yalnızca kapatma kararının idari sonucu üzerinden değil; 1983’ten itibaren Ankara’da eğitim veren, akademik ve bilimsel başarılarıyla tanınan, öğrencilerinin hayatında iz bırakmış bir eğitim kurumu olarak belgelemeyi amaçlamaktadır.

FEM Tutoring Centers

FEM Tutoring Centers was a widespread network of private education institutions founded in Istanbul in 1985 under the name Fırat Education Center and operating in the field of preparation for central examinations in Türkiye. The institution offered students preparing for high school and university entrance exams subject instruction, test practice, mock exams, study sessions and guidance services. Over time, FEM Tutoring Centers expanded beyond Istanbul and became a well-known exam-preparation brand in many provinces of Türkiye. Especially in the 1990s and 2000s, within an education system shaped by exam success, it became one of the important stops on the path to university and selective high schools for many students. With the MEB Law adopted in 2014, the process of closing tutoring centers and converting them into private schools began. In 2016, under Decree-Law No. 667 issued after 15 July, private education institutions bearing the FEM name were closed; their movable and immovable assets, rights, receivables, documents and records were deemed to have been transferred to the Treasury.
