Ipek University

Ipek University was established in Ankara in 2011 by the Koza Ipek Foundation as the first thematic university of Turkey focused on social sciences and arts. The university aimed to provide its students with a world class creativity ecosystem. By launching the Faculty of Cinema Arts it established a strategic partnership with the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Within this framework a Hollywood curriculum was brought to Ankara. The 8 professional film sets within the campus represented the most advanced artistic production infrastructure in the region. With its closure in 2016 Turkey lost its largest technological and academic investment in the fields of cinema and digital arts.

After closure

How building, name, and ownership changed from closure to today.

Following the publication of the decree, the legal entity of Ipek University was dissolved. Under the state of emergency (OHAL) measures, all movable and immovable properties, assets, receivables, and rights were transferred to the state without compensation.

The physical facilities, spread across a wide area including campuses, dormitories, and research centers, were seized by the government. The existing administrative structure was dismantled, and all operations were immediately suspended.

Physical Reallocation and Current Use

Shortly after the closure, the campus facilities were allocated to a state institution. Original signage was systematically removed from the main entrance, campus buildings, and directional signs, and replaced with new branding.

Currently, the area operates as a large public university campus housing various vocational schools, research institutes, and student dormitories.
